Frank Sinatra relaxes during his 1962 World Tour for Children. He paid out of his own pocket for he and a group of musicians to travel for three months across Europe and Asia, performing benefits for children’s hospitals and charities. Between shows he visited the hospitals to meet and play with the sick, orphaned, and disabled children. His son Frank Sinatra Jr. said, “He did this as his own expense and he did it because he wanted to do it. He realized to his great joy that he was in a position that he could do it…And I guarantee you that he got more satisfaction out of that than anything he’d ever done.” He also recorded the album Sinatra Sings Great Songs from Great Britain in the midst of the tour and recorded his album Frank Sinatra Conducts Music from Pictures and Plays less than a week after returning back in the States.
